Farm 2 Fork: Kicking Off a Summer of Nourishment
As summer approaches and the school year comes to a close, many children look forward to a season of fun and adventure. But for too many kids in the Arkansas River Valley, summer means uncertainty—uncertainty about where their next meal will come from. Without access to free or reduced-price school meals, many families struggle to fill the gap, leaving children at risk of hunger.
Recognizing this urgent need, our Summer Program was launched 10 years ago by community members determined to make a difference. What started as a small effort in a local church has now grown into a vital program serving over 750 kids across eight pickup sites in Russellville, Dardanelle, Danville, Pottsville, and Atkins.
This year, rising food costs and cuts to federal food assistance programs have placed even more families in need. With nearly 9,000 children in the River Valley facing food insecurity, we anticipate that up to 1,200 kids will register for our program this summer and that we will add pickup sites in Clarksville and Hector to increase access to our program.
To ensure these children receive the nutrition they need, we invite you to join us for Farm 2 Fork on Saturday, June 7th, just before the Summer Program kicks off. More than just a farm-to-table event, Farm 2 Fork is a powerful community-driven fundraiser that fuels our mission to fight food insecurity. Every ticket purchased, every donation made, and every partnership formed helps us provide fresh, healthy meals to children who would otherwise go without.
The average cost of a meal in Arkansas is $3.60. With just a little over twice that amount each week, you can provide 14 meals and snacks to a child in our community.
